The most common questions I get …

1) “Doc, what BLOOD METER do you recommend?”

For years my diabetics told me this system was great. I tried several others before I bought this one. I can’t count the number of times I have tested my blood only to get an ERROR message from the strip. Grrr. I hate that. FORACARE gets my vote because it is accurate and takes only ONE test strip to get the results. YES!!

2) “Doc, which Ketones-In-A-Can (aka exogenous ketones, BHB) do you recommend?”

I don’t recommend these in everyone. I have times this is a great solution for my patients that are very overweight and trying to get used to burning ketones for fuel. All keto supplements should have magnesium in them. This one does.
I own the Dr Boz brand and the Dr Boz supplements.

3) “Doc, what can I have while fasting?”

Salt and water is the best.
The next best is a fasting tea. My favorite Pique Teas (also recommended by Jason Fung, MD):
Black coffee is okay during a fast.
Bone broth is alright.

I, too can't drink hot drinks in the summer so I have converted my hot Keto mocha latte to a Keto mocha frappe. 1 shot espresso, 3 oz low carb milk of choice (I use Kroger's Carbmaster), 1 to 2 Tbs sweetener to taste, 1/2 Tbs cocoa powder, 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract, 1/8 tsp xanthan gum ( optional but really helps). Blend in blender 30 seconds. Add 2 oz heavy whipping cream and 3/4 cup crushed ice Blend 20 to 30 seconds or until ice is blended in. If you add the cream in the first batch it gets too whipped. This is the closest I found to a Starbucks Frappucino. The xanthan gum emulsifies the mixture. I bet the Perfect Keto Chocolate Collagen can be substituted for the cocoa powder and sweetener.

I’ve been doing keto since 8/18. I’ve lost approximately half of the hair from my head and all the hair from my feet. The hair growth on my legs has radically slowed. I began loosing hair in substantial quantity 3 months into keto. I also started IF and did a 7 day fast shortly after starting keto. That had health benefits within 3 months, measurable with MRI. I wouldn’t do anything differently if I could go back in time. But the radical changes probably stressed my body a lot. I’ve been in ketosis for months now and hair loss is finally slowing. My mane was the thickest when I was sickest!

Hi, Dr. Boz and Jennifer! I'm going to try to post this question a couple of different places, so hopefully it will be seen. I actually have two things: I'm reading Any Way You Can right now and just finished the part about tinnitus. I would greatly appreciate more information about how ketosis can reduce that condition! I'm also interested to know if there is any way to reverse gum recession and cavities through ketosis. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful and fascinating information!

Since I live overseas, it's not always easy to find all the supplements that you have so available in the U.S. I just did a Google search, and honestly cannot find any difference in taking Knox gelatin powder and collagen peptides; except the gelatin powder is MUCH cheaper, and I can get gelatin powder locally and would have to order collagen peptides internationally. What I am reading seems to show no difference in benefits. Can you address this for us? Thanks, and love your channel. I have been a long time follower, but not much of one to make comments. I just tried 2 tsp of gelatin powder stirred in my mug of ice coffee (before adding ice), and it makes no change of the consistency or taste at all.

Thank you so much for addressing this topic! Last July I went Keto. I lost twenty pounds over two months, and HANDFULS of hair over the next few months. That’s not counting what went down the drain. Frantic, I cut my long curly hair off, began taking biotin and zinc and rethinking my diet. I will proceed with a daily food and result journal, continuing to positive results.

I started losing a lot of hair about 3 months after starting keto in 2015. It definitely scared me but there was no way I was giving up keto! The shedding lasted about three months and then gradually went back to normal. I went from long hair to a bob cut to make it look thicker, and that helped get me through the scraggly stage. I've been keto over 3.5 years now and haven't had a hair issue since that initial loss. Also, I've been taking collagen (2x per day) since January and can definitely see improvements in my skin. It looks healthier (plumper?) than before and I'm not so bothered by my smile lines as I was before. Mine only says "hydrolyzed", but I'm assuming that's the same as "snippets". I was surprised to find a grass-fed pasture raised brand (ZHOU) at TJ Max, of all places!
