Going Gray 2: Silver & Steel – How to Enhance Your Gray Hair the Easy Way Four months ago, I went to my hairstylist and had him bleach my hair out as light as we possibly could. A harsh method, yes, but I have short hair and wasn’t too worried about damage. Then I toned it with Manic Panic Virgin Snow to a white color. I used the color right out of the jar and was really pleased with the result. After a bit, I decided I wanted more of a gray tone and toned with Manic Panic Blue Steel mixed 50/50 with Pastelizer on the top of my head and full strength Blue Steel on the rest of my head. I walk you through it in the video! To maintain my silver tone I wash every other day with purple shampoo. When I’m feeling flush I spring for the Goldwell Dualsenses Unisex and Shimmer Lights when I’m more budget minded.

Stuff I Love and Recommend To My Friends

Purple shampoo will keep your gray looking more silvery than dull, try to wash with a purple shampoo every third shampoo. Don’t use it too often or hair can start to get a little lavender! Frankly, I like my hair a bit lavender so I hit it with purple conditioner, too! Texturizing pomade or paste is a great way to give a separated texture to hair that is much more popular and trendy right now. (Aveda is my favorite – love how fresh and clean it smells!) Going gray is freeing, but unfortunately, society still thinks of gray hair as old, so we have to work a little harder to keep it looking fresh and youthful to match our spirits!

Monique I finally did it. Went to a salon and had my dyed auburn hair bleached out to transition to the white hair that is now my natural color. Hence I am a senior. I am thinking about trying the manic panic because my hair is so white I feel washed out. Might go Manic Panic Blue Steel this weekend.

That "purple shampoo" you recommended in another video, turned my hair lilac! NO! Not at all what I want. Taking more than 6 shampoos before it looks grey/gray again.

I'm very grateful for your wonderful videos. I'm a 54 year old woman, and I'm just ready to embrace my age and changing hair. This is a hard step for some women, but I think a profound one. I want to do this gracefully, as you have. You are stunning in grey, really, and you help to make this process fun and exciting. Thank you so much!

You are so comfortable with all these hair products, I would not know where to start and with what. But being an actress probably makes a difference because

Looking back at this video which one of my favorites I've noticed when your hair was shorter as here it looks so much thinker then your hair long now. That happen to me when I left my hair grow plus using wig, extensions hair clips really made my roots thinner plus my hairline receded back so went back to short saved my hair. Be careful

If I kept manic panic in for a 1/2 hour to 45 min, my hair would turn lavender.

I ordered manic panic blue steel and pastille at Amazon. Question is my hair is medium length and it's naturally white. I'm afraid it will come out blue. What do think. Yvonne

I've been enjoying your videos. I have very dark blonde hair that has been lightened/dyed a medium to light blonde for at least the past 10 years. It is too yellow and I'm wanting to grow out my now gray/white hair. (I'm estimating that I'm about 75% gray…with the front 2/3 and top layer of my hair about 100%) If I use a silver shampoo (purple) on my hair would it help my dyed yellow blonde become more white to better match what I'm trying to grow out?? I'm just trying to make the first 6 months of the transition as easy as possible. I don't mind cutting it, but I can't do something as short as a pixie.

Thank you for this video. I just bleached my hair to go completely grey/silver. After bleaching at least 4 times to try desperately to get the brassiness thru-out my red hair out, I finally got my hair light enough to add toner. Wella 050 & T018 that's raved about on YouTube for that lovely silver hair, didn't work for me at all!! I had to use manic panic but only left it in for 5 minutes becuz I was afraid of getting blue hair. I used Blue Steel and a touch of Purple Haze which is what other YouTubers tell you to do. Purple Haze left a slight lavender tint but still grey overall. I will do the Blue Steel longer now since I now see I have nothing to be afraid of. Looks great on you!

I recently started to do health and beauty videos here at YouTube and decided to embrace my gray/white/silver hair. I like to wear wigs too, but I am anxious to try the manic panic to enhance what I have going. Pop on by my channel anytime…. you may have suggestions for me. Meanwhile, thanks for the videos you post here. I always enjoy them. I was a Hollywood girl too, for a long time. I still miss the place at times.

Great Video! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about – Millawdon Goodbye Gray Trick (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got amazing success with it.

I love the effect on the top front part of your hair. My hair is also all natural…no coloring or bleaching has been done. But I don't like the darker blond -brown hair that I have on the sides and back (top) of my hair. I want it to all be lighter, brighter, and a silvery white color. I don't want it to look fake! I don't mind a darker silver color where my darker hair is now. But not sure how to get the results I want. I was a hairdresser when I was a young lady, but that's been 30 + years ago! But I do know a little about coloring and know that I can end up with red tones on the brownish areas…So the question is should I opt for bleaching first, or just a high lift (what shade is what I want to know!) coloring kit? Thank you and I love your hair! Love your videos too! This is the second or third time I've watched this one.

Have you tried Naissant? I haven't tried any other purple shampoo so can't compare but I really like it. The shampoo dries but the masque really softens. Would love for you to do a review just to see what you think since you have used more products than myself.

I am 57 with long blond-ish hair that is going grey is patches at the root and bleached ends with ombre in the middle where it is growing out between the two. The undersides in the back is almost brunette. I want to be grey believe it or not, but I am not so sure about cutting off 5 years of growth yet. Although I love your cut.
