OMG FINALLY a tutorial that doesn't involve that stupid unicorn pony tail! I've cut my own hair for years with a few exceptions, because I've just had bad experiences almost every time someone else does my hair. But I wanted some actual technique so I'm more in control and less likely to mess up my hair. Thanks for sharing this! I'm glad to see an actual stylist say "yes you can cut your own hair, here's a safe way to do it!"

side note- could you make a video about how/when to use thinning shears? I have so much hair, I have to have layers just so it isn't so heavy, but even that weighs a lot because it grows so fast. And I'd love to have more bouncy volume like I did when I was younger and had it thinned!

Great! question about the tool, to do it at home, it's not necessary to buy a hair scissor right? just use the normal one as long as it used fine?

I just cut my hair this morning, and tried using your video to do my layers, but I have SO much hair that it's hard keeping the sections together 🙁 But I love how your layers turned out, so I'm going to try again tonight! I just want the top layers, and to lighten up the bluntness of the initial cut.

I have curly fine hair but a lot of hair, and this turned out beautiful! You don't need stick straight hair for this to work 🙂 so happy. At first I didn't take enough of the mohawk section in the back and it was too heavy in the back, but the next day I pulled more hair into the mohawk from behind the ear line and got perfect layers in the back as well. Thanks so much. This is the best and easiest to follow video I've found so far.

This is the perfect style for me. I've been to stylists so many times and I always end up with something OTHER than this cut!! I'm not brave enough to try it on my own. I quit getting my hair cut because it always gets messed up! So I've decided…I'm going to take your video with me to the salon and show them the before and after freeze frame and tell them THIS is what I want!! Thank you so much. Your hair is BEAUTIFUL!

Wow, finally a PROFESSIONAL's tutorial. You have a new subbie all the way from Poland. I have just purchased hair cutting scissors by Jaguar and I can't wait to trim my hair the way you did. I am so glad you've posted this video, as I was almost about to do the 4 pony tails layered cut 🙂 whew

I have used this tutorial to cut my hair more times than I can count. It has worked and looked amazing every time without fail!! I have saved so much money by using this tutorial instead of going to the salon. I've tried other tutorials in the past but none have been as good as this. Thank you so much for this video!!!

Thanks a lot Betsy. I have done this 5 times now. I don't cut my own hair to save money. I do it because I am sick of hairdressers not doing what I asked! I like this curved layered U-shape style, but for the past 2 years all my local hairdressers are doing the curve upsidedown (so the sides are longer than the back), as that's what's in fashion apparently.

Thank you for the tutorial. I cut my hair today using this tutorial after watching so many on You tube. Loved the way it had turned out. I did struggle a bit to get everything in a line because my hair is wavy and thick and it is my first time cutting my own hair but I'm sure it will get easier with practice.
    Thanks again

Thank you for this! Going to the salon is terrifying to me because I have really long hair and long bangs, and it always seems to not go well.. either my hair is too short, my bangs are too short, or something is uneven and not right. I decided to try it myself using your method, and it looks awesome! Just as good as my best salon hair cut and much better than my worst.

I am going to try To cut my super long hair using this tutorial. My hair is down to my belly button, so I would guess about 2ft long? I need a couple inches off for my split / dead ends. I was browsing through the comments to see if anyone attempted this tutorial with super long hair and liked how the turn out was. Guess i will find out 😁😁
